Emotions and Encounters in Tourism – CultSense Learning Module 3
The third CultSense Learning Module considers Emotions and Encounters in Tourism.
How can encounters with ‘others’ contribute to learning about the world and yourself? Why do emotions play such an important role in tourist experiences? Why do tourists react very differently to their visits? And what is the impact of specific forms of tourism on local communities?
This learning module contains open access material in which emotional encounters with people and places are central, to be used by students and lecturers. The module features case studies on emotions in war tourism, and on the experiences of locals living in the touristic Amsterdam Red Light District.
CultSense offers other resources connected to this theme:
- two case studies (one on war tourism, one on tourism to the Amsterdam Red Light District)
- two videos (one on war tourism in the Netherlands, one on visiting the Romanian city of Sibiu)
- suggestions for in-class activities, testing, and further research
We wish you fruitful discussions on this topic!
